Journalist, Copywriter, Storyteller
September 2026:
As a chronic evening doom-scroller I particularly enjoyed writing this feature for Breathe magazine on the simple hack of turning your phone to greyscale to reclaim your time and attention. Smart phones and their apps are designed to keep us scrolling, tapping and clicking. It’s the same principle of using colours, lights, constant interest and drip-fed rewards that keeps the fella standing in front of the one-armed bandit in the corner of the pub, pushing coins into the slot. But as soon as you flip your phone to black-and-white mode, it’s amazing how unappealing the endless scroll becomes.Â

Telling stories...

From traditional newspapers to social media soundbites, the way we consume news, features and information is ever-evolving, but some things never change – including our love of a damn good story.

That's where I come in. With almost three decades of experience working for newspapers, magazines and online platforms, I know what makes a great tale – and I know exactly how to tell it. Generating ideas, conducting brilliant interviews to get to the real heart of the story, and writing tight, engaging copy to deadline is what I do best. I have a background in health and human interest journalism, and a special interest in writing for women, but I also cover topics like business and entrepreneurship, personal development and psychology, environmental issues and local news where I live. One of the best things about being a journalist is meeting different people and learning new things every single day.

If you have a story that may be of interest to one of the publications I write for (see below), and want to deal with a friendly and no-nonsense journalist, please get in touch. I'm based in the UK but speak to people all over the world. Visit Tell your story to find out more. Or perhaps you’d like to utilise my interviewing and writing skills to help you tell your own story for your business or website. It can be tough to know where to start when it comes to shouting about your own background or achievements. I can do it for you – visit my Copywriting page for details.

If you're a commissioning editor looking for a great story, or an accurate and engaging copywriter, I’m your woman. I used to be news editor at a busy daily paper, so I know the importance of lively writing with all bases covered. You can find out more about my background and credentials here, or check out my portfolio and testimonials for examples of my work and feedback. I'm a member of the National Union of Journalists (NUJ) and the Society of Authors (SOA), and a supporter of the SOA’s Human Authored campaign to protect authors, writers and human creative work. You won’t find any AI-generated copy in anything I produce because I’m a firm believer that my work is simply better, more original and more engaging than anything artificial intelligence can come up with!

What don't I cover?
As a former local newspaper journalist and news editor I firmly believe in the importance of local reporting for our communities and democracies. If you’re lucky enough to have a great local newspaper, please support it. Stories involving regional politics, councils and government, the health service and crime are best sent to the specialist news teams in your area.
